Forestry Subdivisions and Land-use Consents

Subdivision of land for forestry is in some Councils reasonably heavily regulated, and it is sometimes advisable and preferable to undertake a subdivision and a land-use consent together to achieve the desired result. With the increase in the value of carbon credits, an increasing shortage of timber and its forever increasing value, the conversion of marginal farmland to forestry plantations for carbon credits is becoming a big business. We have the experience in undertaking these consents and subdivisions and can advise how it may be possible to get consents with reduced standards (eg ROW formation) given the intended long-term use of the land. We have worked with some of the biggest names in forestry in Canterbury and are continuing to do so on a regular basis.

Having undertaken our own forestry development over 20 years ago we are the ones to contact regarding new, existing or proposed forestry establishment and subdivision.

Viticultural Land-use and Subdivision

With large tracts of land in Canterbury, Marlborough and Otago having been developed into vineyards over the last 40 years or so, viticulture is a big industry in the South Island, and one we have been involved in for many years. We work with established vineyard owners looking to rejig their holdings to create lifestyle allotments within the vines, corporates wanting to purchase land suitable for new plantings, consenting for frost fans where such a consent is required, and all manner of things to do with grapes and wine. Some of the best vineyards in Canterbury and Otago have started out with our pegs defining their boundaries.
